DICK SUMNER

Dick was born in 1946 in upper state New York. His family moved to Atlanta when he was eight. After an Air Force tour during the Vietnam War he returned to Atlanta and married high school sweetheart Bess Sherwood in 1968. Bess’s father served as an Elder at Chestnut Drive congregation for several years and after his death, her mother Beatrice has worshipped at Blue Ridge congregation. Dick and Bess have three sons Ryan, Scott, and Jonathan and now have three grandchildren John, Lexi, and Anna Claire.

Dick was baptized at the Avondale congregation in 1974. Since then they worshipped at Campus and Snellville congregations in Atlanta. He served as Deacon on Missions at Snellville and taught college age, middle school, and adult classes over the years.

Dick retired from 32 years at SunTrust Banks in 2001 and founded his own company called ResponseLink of North Georgia. This company provides seniors and children who stay alone with a personal emergency pendant that calls special operators and 911 for assistance. Bess serves as Vice President of Responselink and is Executive Assistant to the Controller, Allstate Insurance Co. Southeast Region.

Dick accepted the Eldership at Etowah River Church of Christ in 2006 and he would like to promote stronger spiritual growth, Bible knowledge, fellowship, and new mission work locally and in other countries. Everyone is invited to come to Etowah River and hear the Bible preached and practiced.
